Coastal Inspired Interior Design Mood Boards ft. the City to Cottage Navy Stripe Collection

Is there a more coastal colour combination than navy and white? We’re pretty sure there isn’t.

Hence we created our Navy Stripe Collection with this in mind: so you can easily transform a plain white kitchen counter to conjure up those seaside memories. Use the winning duo anywhere and everywhere in your home – they will also help you keep a summery state of mind year-round!

While we can agree that stripes can be a bit Parisian, but they re also a huge part of a decently preppy and nautical-feeling. Add thick or thin stripes through your upholstered furniture, carpets, or curtains – and last but not least in accessories for your kitchen.

Coastal Kitchen Inspiration Board

Warm neutral grey works beautifully for a kitchen, and so our first mood board features a great pairing of greys, whites, navy and natural wood. We’re especially loving the charming bistro-inspired barstools as these create a sophisticated design inspiration with the gold finish legs.

Pair this type of kitchen with the Navy Stripe Spoon Rest not just to protect your wood or white marble countertops, but also to add a touch of that nautical quirkiness to the most used room in your home.

Breakfast Nook Inspiration Board

While dark grey gives drama to a coastal breakfast nook, a lighter warm grey makes for a soothing and sophisticated colour palette. Driftwood may be one of the first things that comes to mind when you imagine a coastal space, but really any natural wood will be just beach-y. The wood of the cabinetry and the material of the stools give a rustic feel in this spacious kitchen. The open shelves give the impression of a bigger space, and the steel stools are definitely telling you to invite some friends over for a great time!

Finally, give a subtle nod to sea glass with a glass backsplash in a pretty blue, teal, or soft grey or as you see above, go for a vain quartz kitchen countertop paired with these blue and white cement backsplash tiles to create a beautiful pattern. The final touch: our Navy Stripe Spice Jar set to pull the whole look together!

Linen, Wood, Seagrass and Plants

Seagrass is a musthave for any coastal space, and it’s a great way to add a nice, neutral texture to any room. Woven seagrass can add a natural focal point in your room, while distressed floors provide a subtle, supportive backdrop. Top your counters with slices of stained wood for a pared down, simple coastal cottage style.

Island greens like monstera leaves or banana leaf palms are an unexpected fresh accent, as well as fiddle leaf fig trees.

And the final finish: Jo Malone Wood Sage and Sea Salt Cologne. The description says it all: ‘escape the everyday along the windswept shore. Waves breaking white, the air fresh with sea salt and spray. Alive with the mineral scent of the rugged cliffs. Mingling with the woody earthiness of sage. Lively, spirited and totally’.

For the beach hut finish, add your favourite cosy seating, perhaps some simple shelves for jars of flowers and your favourite books and beach finds. And a kettle and teapot for good tea. Maybe an old wooden oar or two propped up outside, a cedar hot tub and a deck chair or two. And a radio. You could absolutely pretend you’re living in a beach hut.

What to put on your rattan tray when not serving tea using our Navy Stripe Tea Set? Treasures from an overcast day: beach pebbles, driftwood, as well as seashells.

Seaside fabrics

Team dainty light blue floral fabrics on a white base with a fresh, clean stripe for that relaxed yet unmissable coastal look. For a more muted take on seaside, go for washed linen.

Versatile tea towels in pure linen will fast become a stylish and indispensable addition to your kitchen. Whether you are wiping up spills, lining breadbaskets or simply drying the dishes, you will wonder how you managed without them.

Same goes for curtains or tablecloths: whether you are looking for a graceful finish, a splash of colour or a softly decadent backdrop, linen tablecloths may be just what you need. It is made of a natural fabric, and this is indeed a luxury nowadays. Easy to clean, and will bring back those carefree days spent by the seaside.

A variety of styles can be represented in your home, using the same colour scheme, from vintage, cottage, farmhouse, coastal, and more  – so, which one will it be?
